Timely filling

Timely filling  is a big issue in every office!!
Most Physicians and Front Desk staff do not realize that every insurance company has a exception to paying a claim, they call it Timely Filing. This means they (the insurance carrier) only allow a certain time frame for physicians to submit a claim to them to be processed and this is initiated from the date of service  . If you go over that allowed time frame they are not obligated to consider, process, or pay  the claim and the office has to write off that charge and can NOT bill the patient.
Here is a list of the most common insurance carriers and their allowed time frames:
Medicare-1yr from date of service
BCBS– 1 yr from date of service
Medicaid– 1yr from date of service
Aetna– 90 days from date of service
Cigna– 90 days from date of service
United Healthcare– 90 days from date of service
Amerigroup– 90 days from date of service
Johns Hopkins– 90 days from date of service
Priority Partners– 90 days from date of service
Kaiser– 90 days from date of service
Blue Choice – 90/120 days from date of service
One Net– 90 days from date of service
